Modular concept – Overview
UFIT viscosity systems are built on a modular architecture. Measurement cells, temperature control, pumps, sample conditioning, electronics, and interfaces are combined into a coherent system that can be adapted to your process today and expanded in the future.
This concept protects your investment: instead of replacing a complete system, individual modules can be exchanged, upgraded, or added as your requirements evolve.

| Module | Typical options |
|---|---|
| Capillary measurement units | Single or multi-channel, different capillary diameters and lengths, optimized for low to very high viscosities. |
| Temperature control | Integrated or external thermostats, extended temperature ranges, rapid temperature changes, high stability for precision work. |
| Pumps and fluid handling | Different pump types, flow ranges, and materials to handle Newtonian and non-Newtonian media. |
| Sample preparation | Filtration, mixing, pre-heating or pre-cooling stages tailored to your process. |
| Electronics and controls | Local control units, rack or panel-mounted electronics, integrated safety and diagnostic functions. |
| Data interfaces | Analog outputs, fieldbus interfaces (e.g. Daisy chain, RS232 ), Ethernet, and laboratory data systems. |
| Mounting and enclosures | suitable for fume hood installation, protective housings for laboratory or industrial environments. |
Because UFIT systems are modular, they can be expanded or reconfigured as your production or laboratory setup changes.
Typical upgrade scenarios include:
Typical upgrade scenarios include:
- Adding additional capillary channels to increase throughput or measure multiple products in parallel.
- Extending the temperature range to cover new formulations or qualification points.
- Replacing wetted parts with more chemical-resistant materials for aggressive media.
- Changing pumps or tubing to accommodate different viscosity ranges or flow rates.
- Adding new data interfaces to connect to additional control systems or databases.
UFIT designs viscosity systems that match the specific properties of your media and your process window.
Examples of customization include:
Examples of customization include:
- Selection of chemically resistant materials (e.g. for solvents, acids, or monomers).
- Adaptation to high-viscosity polymers, resins, and adhesives with appropriate capillaries and pumps.
- Design for elevated pressure and temperature, including safety margins and insulation.
- Integration of sample conditioning such as pre-heating, cooling, or mixing to stabilize viscosity before measurement.
- Engineering of flushing and cleaning concepts to avoid cross-contamination and reduce manual work.
UFIT viscosity systems can be integrated into a wide range of automation and laboratory environments.
We support typical integration tasks such as:
We support typical integration tasks such as:
- Data exchange with MES, LIMS, or database systems via export interface and standardized protocols.
- Display online calculations to receive fast results
- Definition of setpoints, alarms, and interlocks to use correct viscosity results as a control variable in your process.
- User management and data logging concepts that match your quality and compliance requirements.
The modular concept directly supports reliable operation and short service times.
Key advantages include:
Key advantages include:
- Clear separation of functional modules for faster troubleshooting and replacement.
- Standardized spare parts and assemblies that can be stocked and exchanged quickly.
- Easy access to wear parts and wetted components without dismantling the whole system.
- Possibility to keep a complete spare module on site for critical applications.
Real projects illustrate how modularity and customization come together:
- viscosity control for polymer production: A multi-capillary system with highly precise temperature control, chemically resistant components, and integrated cleaning—either with solvent or the subsequent sample—ensures reliable viscosity measurements and minimizes batch-to-batch variation
- Laboratory platform for R&D of new products: A flexible system with easy exchangeable capillaries and a wide range of individual formulas for evaluation helps in the development of new polymers.
Every UFIT system starts with understanding your application. Share your media, temperature and pressure ranges, required accuracy, and integration needs, and we will propose a tailored modular configuration.
